Be a man mister!

It has become common place to find a lot of homes in conditions, where a woman is compelled to take up the sole responsibility of breadwinning in the family.

Be a man

I have observed that most men are apathetic to taking up financial responsibilities at home, just as I have observed the thousands of women empowerment programs springing up every nook and crannies like a fecund mushroom in the garden.

I would like to remind those men who have lazily folded their hands and watched their spouse/women take full financial responsibility, while they do nothing, I mean NOTHING! To contribute, that;

  • Financial responsibility in the household is NOT an OBLIGATION for the woman.
  • Legally, in Nigeria and around the world, there are NO laid down LAWS where a woman provides.
  • A man’s job is to PROVIDE for, and PROTECT his family.

I cannot fathom the recent trend today. I have a couple of married friends who have come forward with complaint against their hubby not taking up financial responsibilities at home.

Dear male, be a man and not a mister! It is not an abomination for a woman to ‘support’ the family income, hence your laxity towards providing for your family. In cases where the woman earns more, the man still have to provide for the family regardless of how much the woman earns. For the Christian folks, the bible says that a man who won’t provide for his family is worse than an infidel. (1Tim 5:8)  Emphasis on “won’t”, it’s not talking about those who are not able to provide, but to those who refuse to provide, even when they have what it takes to provide! From the above scriptures, we see that God has mandated it to be so.

Just like God designed the body’s vital organs for different functions, so also did he create the man and by default settings, mandate him to fend for his family. For the women, he created them as the homemakers, they carry the responsibility of taking care of the home. Nursing the children, planning the meal, and putting the home together. When an organ starts to perform another function from that which it was designed for, then there is a problem.

If the woman supports with the financial responsibility at home, it is a plus to the family. She shouldn’t be compelled to do so, but it should be for her to decide if and when necessary. A man should not get so comfortable when his wife handles all financial responsibility.

Things are hard in the country, but God Almighty is in the business of blessing those men who will sincerely ask Him to do so, for the sake of their families. Shout out to those men who do not neglect their families, may God continually bless you.
