Can Kemi Olunloyo keep quiet?

It is high time Kemi Olunloyo stops her bizarre online behaviour and do something meaningful.

Kemi Olunloyo

Her meteoric rise from walking on the muddy sidewalks in Lagos to the elevated runways in Nigeria’s makeshift modelling industry has been a lightning rod for discussions between pessimists/realists and Nigeria’s right winged religiously grounded masses.

The pessimists/realists argue that Olajumoke Orisaguna’s story is a bubble that can burst at any time. They might have a point though. Nigeria’s modelling industry is not a multi-million-naira industry. I don’t think the modelling industry has produced any millionaire yet. I love Olajumoke’s story. It’s a modern day fairy tale but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The spotlight is on Olajumoke Orisaguna and it’s all good but when the lights go off will her story be the same? Will there be money to support her kids?

These are salient questions asked by rationale minds. It does not mean they are not happy for Olajumoke. It means that they care and are worried about her future. There are so many viral stars that fade into oblivion after social media addicts are no longer hooked on them.

On the other horizon is the religious right wing. Millions of Christians in Nigeria are using Olajumoke Orisaguna’s story as a prayer point. Thousands of preachers are using her in sermons. “If God can do it for Olajumoke then he can surely do it for you.” I am can picture many Pentecostal pastors using this line until it is played out.

These two divides are not wrong. They are actually essential to the discourse of the joy and pain of being an overnight celebrity.

There are however people who straddle the middle line of the divide. They make a lot of noise on social media and don’t add anything to the discussion. Kemi Olunloyo is one of them.

Last week Kemi Olunloyo spared some of her precious data to throw shade at poor Olajumoke who is basking in the limelight. She also threw shade at TY Bello who more or less discovered Olajumoke. She didn’t stop there. She directed her rants at Yoruba people also which is baffling since she is Yoruba in the first place.

Kemi Olunloyo is no young maiden so I can’t chalk up her behaviour online as youthful exuberance. Her Twitter rants border on annoying and crazy to say the very least.

All she does is rant and rant all day long against her imaginary foes. She has yet to spark up a great conversation about anything meaningful online. All she does is throw shade, and troll people.

Kemi Olunloyo belongs in the dregs of the Nigerian Internet community that aims at promoting hate and vitriol. If she isn’t saying that she will ban Islam and burn churches if she becomes president, she is saying something outrageous like Linda Ikeji’s mansion was a political gift.

Kemi Olunloyo needs to be gagged. I don’t support the social media bill but in her case I will make an exception. The old broad needs some therapy, and have her access to the Internet taken until she is ready to be a productive member of the society.
