Funke Akindele, once bitten twice shy

Super actress Funke Akindele has learnt her lesson this time around after the crash of her last marriage.

Funke Akindele aka Jenifa

It's no surprise that the wedding was done away from the public eye. The celebrity relationship itself was shrouded in secrecy with just a tiny bit of the relationship making it to the blogs. Selfies, relationship goals, #MCM, #WCW posts and public appearances have either been very rare or non-existent from this pair.

We've had low-key celebrity weddings and relationships in the past and there a few in the present but what makes Funke Akindele's situation stand out the more is because of her status not only in Nollywood but in the Nigerian celebrity scene.

Funke Akindele is one of the biggest celebrities in Nigeria, and by extension Africa as well. With the runaway success of her 2008 'Jenifa' movie that has gone on to spawn successful sequels and a TV series, Funke Akindele is a household name, a fully Nigerian brand immensely popular with the masses.

When Funke Akindele coughs it makes the news. When she sneezes it is breaking news and when she laughs it is quickly on blogs and entertainment sites.

The star actress' love life was of public interest a few years ago. In April 2012 Funke Akindele would be spotted with a mystery man at Industry Nite headlined by pop singer May D. The mystery man would end up being Funke Akindele's husband Adeola Kehinde Oloyede.

Their affair was relatively public and their wedding a month later was a trending event. Despite attempts by Funke Akindele's sister to divert press men to a fake wedding venue, the actress' wedding was attended by a lot of journalists. It was a big deal- one of Nigeria's top and most lovable actresses was getting married.

Unfortunately, just as the wedding was a public affair, the divorce was also a mainstream highlight in 2013. Less than a year after her wedding Funke Akindele got divorced. The public noise from the shocking news was an all-time high and Funke Akindele's business quickly became everybody's business.

It is, therefore, no surprise that Funke Akindele is moving like a black cat in the shadows. Since her divorce, she has been wary of the media and has hardly granted any interviews.

Her lips have been sealed about her love life since then. When asked to confirm if she was indeed dating JJC by Punch back in April 2016 Funke Akindele said "I really don’t like discussing about my private life anymore because it pays to keep that part of your life secret.

“A lot of people are watching and sometimes you read a lot of negative comments about you which could make you want to derail, so it is better to keep matters of the heart close to the heart.

“I am the one in it and I know what is good for me. I am sorry I don’t want to talk about anything that has to do with my private life."

Once bitten, twice shy and three times wiser. Funke Akindele isn't about to jeopardise her new shot at love by inviting the whole world into her business.

They say painful events create the most salient lessons. From the crash of her last marriage, Funke Akindele has learnt to prioritize what matters most to her- love.
