10 Nigerian celebrities involved in abusive relationships

AY Makun released a statement via his Instagram concerning the breakup rumours that made the rounds yesterday.

Whether or not domestic violence was what led to the reported breakup of AY and his wife, the issue of domestic violence and abuse has been consistent in celebrity marriages over the years.

Below is a list of Nigerian celebrities involved in domestic violence allegations and troubles which rocked their marriages.

1. 2Shotz

Last year 2Shotz's wife Precious Jones came out and said that she was a victim of domestic abuse in her marriage with the veteran Nigerian rapper. She revealed sordid details of 2Shotz laying hands on her, emotionally abusing her, and threatening to release their sex tape to the public. Precious Jones has left 2Shotz and is back in Ireland with her daughter. 2Shotz later came out to deny the allegations.

2. Freeze

Veteran on-air-personality Freeze (Ifedayo Olarinde) has always had a rocky relationship with his ex-wife Opeyemi Olarinde. In the month of November Freeze went on a spree on Instagram revealing details of his turbulent marriage with his former wife, and mother of his children. In his revelations he claimed that he was a victim of domestic abuse, and shared pictures of him with cuts and bruises. According to him his wife assaulted him during their marriage. Freeze is now currently engaged to Benedicta Elechi.

3. K Solo

In 2012, the nasty news of music producer K Solo allegedly beating his wife Kikelomo Oyeniyi came up on the Internet. According to Kikelomo, K Solo whose real names are Solomon Oyeniyi regularly beat her up. She claimed that she lost her pregnancy after K Solo physically assaulted her. Of course K Solo came out to deny these claims. In a bizarre twist the couple appeared on television and said the domestic violence stories were part of a publicity stunt. That however did not stop K Solo from refusing to accept Kikelomo's pregnancy as his. The pair shortly divorced after this. K Solo has however remarried.

4. Zaaki Azzay

The wife of veteran Nigerian rapper Zaaki Azzay in 2012 came out and said that her husband had been physically abusing her for years. She gave a detailed interview on how the rapper would physically assault her. When she was tired of all the drama Hadiza Zaaki Azzay left her matrrimonial home. Zaaki and Hadiza are divorced. Zaaki is currently married to his former wife's cousin.

5. Frank Edoho

The popular TV personality was entangled in a messy marriage with his former wife Katherine Obiang. Throughout their marriage there were tales of domestic violence. It was a high profile unstable marriage. Obviously they divorced and in 2014 Frank Edoho remarried.

6. Emeka Ike

Last year Emeka Ike's wife Emma Ike accused the popular Nollywood actor of physically abusing her. This wasn't the first time we heard about domestic abuse in their marriage. The first case was in 2014. Emma Ike dragged her husband to court seeking a divorce. Emeka Ike denied these allegations and pleaded for his wife to come back home.

7. Monalisa Chinda

In 2014 Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda opened up and revealed that she was a victim of domestic abuse in her former marriage. This led to the crash of her first marriage. Monalisa Chinda recently got married to .

8. Fathia Balogun

Yoruba actress Fathia Balogun was formerly married to Saidi Balogun. They were a power couple not only in the Yoruba scene but in the movie industry in generally. Unfortunately their marriage did not last. It was riddled with stories of domestic violence.

9. Kefee

The late Gospel singer Kefee known for her melodious South-South songs was also known for making headlines alongside her former husband Alec Godwin. When they were married the two regularly made headlines because of their marriage troubles. Of course naturally there were stories of physical abuse in their union.

10. Foluke Daramola

The busty actress who revealed she was raped when she was a teenager was also a victim of domestic abuse in her first marriage to Tunde Shobowale.
