Customs boss announces easy way to verify vehicle duty clearance

A new, hopefully efficient and effective process to verify your vehicle duty clearance has been revealed.

Customs boss, Hameed Ali

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this new way is a verification code that has just been launched by the Customs Comptroller General.

He said: "For effective and easy customs duty clearance verification, you can dial or send SMS to these numbers 094621597 with your vehicle C-number, the year you paid the duty and the port or location where the vehicle came through into the country.

“Immediately all that information is given, just in five minutes you will get a response whether your vehicle duty clearance is genuine or not."

He also said that the last number, 7, can be changed to 8 or 9, adding that doing this could get a faster response.

According to Ali, this code should ensure easy, stress free verification for motor dealers and Nigerian vehicle owners.

He also referred to the issue of duty payment on old vehicles, saying that it was simply a misunderstanding.

This new code was launched on March 21, 2017 at a media stakeholders meeting in Abuja.
