The new logo doesn't really look very different from the old one, but there are still important differences - the biggest of which is the comb effect that used to be at the point where the circles meet has been taken out.

The old MasterCard font has also been retired, the MasterCard wordmark has been moved below the logo, and the wordmark now has a new font.

The company enlisted the services of popular design company, Pentagram, in the redesign.

Everything has changed in the past 20 years,” said Michael Bierut, Pentagram partner in charge of the project, according to Innovation Village. “There was a lot of screw tightening and design tinkering happening [with the logo] in the first 30 years of the company. Then they almost got frozen in 1996. If you have a MasterCard in your wallet, that’s the logo you see … The trick then is, how do we leverage 50 years of equity?
