Helicopter company calls on external investigators to audit operations in Nigeria

The management Bristow Helicopters Ltd in a recent statement is calling on external investigators to audit its operations in Nigeria, to complement the ongoing audit by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The statement clearly stated that the call for external auditors is not for lack of confidence in the civil aviation regulator but an act of assistance in carrying out a thorough audit.

The airline also urged the NCAA to extend its audit to other airlines operating in the oil and gas sector and share fallouts from their investigations with them to ensure safety.

“Furthermore, but without prejudice to the ongoing investigations, Bristow welcomes an industry led external audit of its operations in Nigeria, with the expectation that such initiative will also extend to include the audit of other similar entities active in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, such that any findings can be shared laterally across all operators to further enhance safety”, the statement said.

On February 3, 2016, Bristrow’s Sikorsky helicopter crashed at the Oworonshoki area of Lagos. All individuals on board survived with the help of NEMA.

In August 2015, the airline was involved in another crash, in which 6 persons survived and the other 6 dead.
