Herbert Wigwe speaks about innovation in the finance sector

The Access Bank Group Managing Director explained that there were several advantages with the advancement of technology and innovation in building industries.

On December 10, 2015, Access Bank hosted its second leadership symposium. This year's theme was "Leading in a Transformational World - The Imperative of Innovation".

Technology and innovation have brought a lot of change to several markets and industries. The Access Conference 2015 presented success stories from several industry leaders including by co-founder of Apple Steve Wozniak, Former President Costa Rica Jose-Maria Figueres, President of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, Aigboje AIG-Imokhuede, Google's Head of Retal, Ted Souder, Founder LDA Couture Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, media entrepreneurChude Jideonwo and several others.

Pulse Nigeria spoke to Herbert Wigwe, CEO and Group Managing Director (GMD) of Access Bank who explained the whole idea behind the conference.

“The reason we chose this topic is just to begin to get institutions, banks, regulators to be aware of some of this massive changes happening”, Wigwe said.

The Access Bank GMD explained that there were several advantages with the advancement of technology and innovation in building industries.

“These changes are not actually bad things, these are things that can perhaps actually lift up the overall production in terms of GDP, in terms of performance of institutions, as well as lift up the entire standard of living of the populace”, he said.

Access Bank has positioned itself as one of the lead innovators in the Nigerian financial industry. The institution recently introduced a mobile payment solution called ‘PayWithCapture’.

“It’s basically empowering millions of people . . . to be able to handle payments in a much easier way given the infrastructural challenges that we have”, Wigwe said of the new product.

He revealed to Pulse that there were several other things the bank was working on.

The first edition of the Access conference was held in in 2013 and it hosted prominent global leaders including former Presidents George W. Bush of the United States, Nicolas Sarkozy of France, and John Kuffour of Ghana.
