For instance, the issue of bride price is generally accepted as part of the requirements when a man wants to take a Nigerian bride.
While some tribes go for the kill in terms of monies required, others appear modest [and ridiculously so, in my opinion], claiming that “ we are not selling awa child “.. In my village, the bride price was six pounds when that was our currency and was converted to six naira. Which remains till date. So the man that came to ask for my hand in marriage offered six naira as bride price (that is really annoying!).
However, [now this is the part that I like] The father of the bride will now return the money to the grooms family, saying “ we are not selling awa child “ …phewww that is better than putting a 6 naira price tag on me LOLS!
From the moment the bride price is paid and accepted , she can leave her father’s house to her husband.
Our culture demands that the man takes care of the wife and family needs. We do understand that things can now go awry financially the husband can become unemployed , the wife might be earning a larger salary . The man should, as much as possible, fend for his wife, after all the vow states “ with my worldly goods I thee endow “.
At this point, I will need to state, “categorically” that chop- money is not and can never be she-money.. Although we have heard of happenings decades ago, where wives were able to purchase jewelry, from chop-money. I do not support this ojare ! That is how padding was born! LOL.
There will be no need to this, if she-money is made available (there are some very greedy women though).
She-money is like a token, if you may, towards your wife’s upkeep. Some men are able to basically “foot the bill “ while others are able to give a portion. My opinion – ensure that you give your wife she-money. Its not the amount that counts ; women sheath your calculators [chai, mhan mii it counts o …LOL!], but your consistency, come “rain or shine “.
Giving your woman she-money, enhances the sense of security that everywoman wishes to possess. Giving your woman she-money will curb padding of household expenses.
Giving your woman she-money will bring you peace of mind and joy at home.. I wish I could explain further but as we used to say in secondary school debates, “ with this few points of mine “ , I hope I have been able to convince you that your woman needs a regular ( monthly ) supply of she-money …
