"APC should desist from perpetually resorting to giving excuses!"

Written by

President Buhari giving a speech.

It is time that APC/ President Buhari led administration should completely desist from giving lame excuses of an empty treasury; it is very irresponsible and smacks of unpreparedness especially as it relates to governance. It is sadly, the last thing we need as a country at this crucial point in time; President Buhari should summon the political will to stay the ambitious course he set for himself during the campaign.

First and foremost, the President must begin by initiating policies geared towards stabilizing the economy as opposed to complaining about what was left by his predecessors and also be realistic and accurate about his financial reform. President Buhari was elected to come and spend funds left behind by his predecessor alone, but rather to also improve on the revenue generating status of the country more importantly by looking beyond incomes solely coming into the nation’s coffers through the sales of crude oil. The APC should realize that their government will not last for eternity and the clock started ticking the minute he was inaugurated and it is best to make your mark so when you leave you would have left your footprints indelibly marked in the sands of time.

The APC offered a vision of change, a complete overhaul of the Nigerian economy and that is a good game plan which they should stick to and also President Buhari should always remember that he has transited from a Political party’s candidate to Chief Executive and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. A government who knows what it takes to lead will get to work immediately, I was under the impression that the APC had everything planned out, that they had done their homework and are well aware of all that it will entail. Was almost certain they will hit the ground running and not crawling, unfortunately the reverse is the case here as the government has said that it will take them 3 months to appoint a cabinet despite the huge challenges.

However, they should know by now that Nigerians cannot be fooled and Nigerians are not forgetful people as they indeed remember all the campaign promises. The APC should know that Nigerians are watching their daily activities closely and they have promised Nigerians that they will solve the major problems besieging the country, so it is very irresponsible of the government to still be talking about empty treasury by now. Before now they have done all their analysis on the situation of the economy, they knew about the crash in prices of crude oil which is Nigeria's major export and are also aware of the negative impact that is having on our economy, they have gotten expert opinions on how to move this nation forward, they have written reports upon reports on the state of the Nigerian economy. Mr. Lai Mohammed during the campaign was always talking on how the Nigerian economy is at the brink of total collapse and all we now hear are excuses upon excuses.

The APC government should better sit up and be ready to take this responsibility of governance with the seriousness it deserves as every Nigerian is waiting anxiously to see their report card and not just a report card of after 4 years but a periodic one of 100 days, 6 months, a year and so on. And if at the end APC has nothing to show, Nigerians may rate this government a "failed" government and then we would gladly look for alternatives. The APC government should wake up to their responsibilities as a matter of urgency both at Federal and State levels as our beloved country Nigeria can no longer afford any dilly dallying and giving of lame excuses.
