Crispr gene-edited pig organs may soon be in a hospital near you.
Scientists are hot on the hunt to figure out a way to transplant pig organs into humans. But a growing concern is retroviruses in pig cells that could infect humans.
It's unclear how high, or low, the risk for retrovirus infection poses for pig-human transplants.
Regardless, a team of scientists recently reported that they've extinguished the risk all together by creating pigs that are virus-free.
