The invite is the third potential meeting between Kaepernick and the NFL. Players reportedly invited Kaepernick to a meeting between teams and the league to discuss social issues. It was reported at the time that Kaepernick would attend. On Tuesday, NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said that the league would welcome Kaepernick at the meetings.

ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported on Monday that players requested a mediation meeting with the league and Kaepernick to discuss the issues. The meeting would be more formal, and while not legally binding, could be overseen by a retired judge or independent lawyer. Kaepernick reportedly agreed to the meeting, while the NFL had reportedly not yet responded.

All of the proposed meetings come after Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL
