These are the best paid African footballers in the world

These players are at the top of their craft

A host of African players abroad received sizeable wages weekly for their jobs as footballers.

In this list, we take a look at 10 most paid African players in world football.

1. Yaya Toure (£230,000)

Cote d'Ivoire midfielder Yaya Toure is the highest paid African footballer in world football. The midfielder joined Manchester City in 2010 as one of the megastars and was given a massive contract which was later improved to £230,000 per week.

The contract ran out last summer before he extended it by just a year,

2. Odion Ighalo (£200, 000)

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo earns £200,000 making him the second highest paid African player in world football. He got the massive contract when he joined Chinese Super League side Changchun Yatai from Watford in January 2017.

3. Samuel Eto’o (£170,000)

Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o was one time the world best-paid player, earning £350,000 per week as an Anzhi Makhachkala player between 2011 and 2013.

The 36-year-old is now third on the list with a weekly pay of £170,000 at Turkish side Antalyaspor.

4. John Mikel Obi (£140,000)

Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi joined Africa’s top earners when he made the move from Chelsea to Chinese Super League side (CSL) Tianjin TEDA in January 2017.

Mikel is now captain of the club where he earns £140,000 weekly.

5. Victor Moses (£110,000)

An improved performance for Chelsea saw him get an improved contract worth £110,000 per week. Moses was on £50,000 but a contract extension until 2021 which he signed in March 2017 doubled his weekly pay.

6. Asamoah Gyan (£100,000)

Asamoah Gyan was the highest paid African player until July 2017 when he joined Turkish side Kayserispor from Chinese Super League (CSL) side Shanghai SIPG.

At Shanghai SIPG, Gyan was earning £227,000 weekly making him one of the best world’s best-paid players.

7. Obafemi Martins (£100,000)

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins joined Chinese Super League (CSL) side Shanghai Shenhua in February 2016 from MLS side Seattle Sounders. He has been raking in £100,000 weekly since he joined the Chinese club.

8. Mohammed Salah (£90,000)

Liverpool's Egyptian star was convinced to move to Liverpool who doubled his Roma salary. He makes £90,000 a week.

9. Kelechi Iheanacho (£70,000)

Despite taking a pay-cut to join Leicester City in the summer of 2017, Kelechi Iheanacho still remains one of the best African players with a weekly wage of £70, 000.

He was earning £85,000 per week at his former side Manchester City before he made the move to Leicester.

10. Brown Ideye (£61, 000)

Nigerian striker Brown Ideye joined top African earners when he moved to Tianjin TEDA from Olympiakos in February 2017.
