Kano Pillars and Gombe Bulls fine for violence

This is considered a good development for the sport, as it would greatly check the conducts of players, coach, clubs as well as their supporters.

The NBBF Technical Committee noted that the move is aimed at ending violence in the Kwese Premier Basketball League, and elevate the league to the status of the America’s NBA.

The body stated that the committee reached the decisions after reviewing situation that led to the fracas that greeted the April 22, 2017 match between the two teams in Gombe state, Nigeria.

Kano Pillars Basketball club was fined N250,000 ($820) and its Gombe counterpart N150,000 ($492) for misconduct during the game.

Six players of Kano Pillars - Abubakar Usman, Ibrahim Yusuf, Abdul Yahaya, Celestine Nwafor, Mustapha Yusuf and Oche Omaga, were handed a three-match suspension each for attacking spectators and violent conducts during the match.

The committee also handed the Head Coach of the visiting team, Sani Ahmed, a two-match suspension. His Assistant, Ibrahim Makun, had a five-league match suspension for attacking a Gombe Bulls player, and he was warned to ensure good behaviour henceforth.

The home team, Gombe Bulls, was also directed to play their next two games behind closed doors, and ensure the repair and road worthiness of the Kano Pillars team bus damaged during the incident.
