Real reasons Nigeria’s military stayed away as Boko Haram released abducted schoolgirls

The Nigeria’s minister for information, Lai Mohammed has stated the exact reasons for the military’s absence when deadly terrorists, Boko Haram released a number of the abducted schoolgirls from Dapchi community in Yobe state.

Mohammed, who had stressed that no ransom was paid to effect the release of the girls, said the Nigerian military were ordered to steer off Dapchi while the terrorists returned the schoolgirls to the same location where they were abducted on February 19, 2018.

“No ransom was paid to them to effect this release. The girls were released around 3 a.m. through back-channel efforts and with the help of some friends of the country, and that it was unconditional,” Mohammed said.

The Information minister further said that during negotiations, the terrorists had insisted on returning the schoolgirls to the same location they were abducted without interference or challenge by the military.

“The only condition they gave us is not to release (the girls) to the military but release them in the town of Dapchi without the military presence,” Mohammed said.

In total, 91 schoolgirls as well as a boy had been said to have been released by the terrorists as against the earlier 105 reported.
