These two African countries are immune from ‘fake news’ problem

Nigeria, South Africa are among top 10 countries in the world not facing ‘fake news’ problem.

A recent poll by Pew Research Center has shown that over 70 percent people living in Nigeria and South Africa believe news media does a good job reporting with accuracy.

This result of the poll placed both African countries among the world top 10 not facing the threat of fake news.

At present, there is a growing phenomenon of fake news across the world. This situation is so worsened - especially on matters of politics and religion, that it is threatening the social structure of most countries. A recent experience in Kenya tells more about the development.

According to the poll, 62 percent of people say their news media does a good job reporting the news accurately. For Nigeria, 71 percent of people hold the view that information from their news media is always accurate.

In South Africa, 73 percent of people say news reportage by the media is always accurate.

The Netherlands is rated the most immune country to fake news as 82 percent of Dutch believe the news coverage in their country is trustworthy. The second and third are India and Canada with 80 and 78 percent accuracy in news reportage respectively.

South Africa and Nigeria are ranked in fifth and sixth position respectively.
