Theresa May to return to meet Grenfell Tower victims following backlash

Prime Minister Theresa May has said that she will visit victims of the Grenfell Tower Fire after facing fierce criticism for not meeting local residents.

LONDON – Prime Minister Theresa May has announced that she will visit victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in hospital later on Friday after facing fierce criticism for not meeting local residents yesterday.

It is thought that the Prime Minister has decided to meet victims in hospital on Friday morning in order to pay her respects. May came under fire after she met with members of the emergency services and not residents who had been impacted by the tragedy, which has claimed the lives of at least 17 people.

May's decision to not speak to locals was noticed. "Theresa May was here but she didn't speak to any of us. She was s**t," one told Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn during his time at the scene, according to the Daily Mirror.

Corbyn met volunteers and those who had lost their homes and neighbours in the fire at St Clement's Church, which has turned into a relief centre.

The Queen has also paid a visit to the scene of the disaster on Friday morning, meeting members of the emergency services and victims at the Westway Sports Centre, alongside her grandson the Duke of Cambridge.

The Prime Minister will hope that her visit to meet victims in hospital will lift some of the backlash she has faced for appearing distant on Thursday.

Yesterday May pledged to start a public inquiry into the disaster, in order to find out its causes.
