Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom has announced that Queen's Speech will take place next Wednesday, later than originally planned.

LONDON - The government has announced that the Queen's Speech will take place on Wednesday June 21, two days later than originally planned.

Andrea Leadsom, the leader of the house said on Thursday morning that the state opening of parliament and the Queen's Speech will happen next week, the Press Association reported.

The Queen's Speech was originally intended to take place on Monday 19 June, but was delayed because of the governments's discussions with the DUP in order to secure a "supply and confidence" agreement.

The news suggests that Prime Minister Theresa May is close to settling a deal with the DUP, over which talks have been running for the past few days.

There were fears that the event would be delayed further because of the Queen's attendance at Royal Ascot, which runs next week.
