Donald Trump Jr. is defending his father on Twitter after former FBI Director James Comey questioned the president's honesty in Thursday's hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Comey on Wednesday had released prepared remarks confirming previous bombshell reports that President Donald Trump had asked the FBI director for his loyalty and to "let go" of the bureau's investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn in relation to its larger investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 US election.

In a different opening statement at Thursday's hearing, Comey said the administration tried to "defame" him and the FBI by spreading "lies" after Comey was fired in May.
