Heather Heyer's mother says she won't talk to Trump 'after what he said about my child'

Susan Bro, the mother of the woman killed amid the Charlottesville, Virginia, violence last weekend, appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday and said her feelings about President Donald Trump had changed following his statements this week.

Heather Heyer, 32, was killed Saturday when a driver identified as a Nazi sympathizer rammed into counterprotesters opposing the white-nationalist rally in Charlottesville.

Bro said that Trump first called her during her daughter's funeral on Wednesday but that she missed his calls and had then come to refuse them.

Asked by "GMA" anchor Robin Roberts whether she had spoken directly with Trump, Bro said, "I have not and now I will not."

"I'm not talking to the president now, I'm sorry, after what he said about my child," Bro said. At a fiery press conference Tuesday, Trump said there was "blame on both sides" for the clashes in Charlottesville.

Bro said she had "not really watched the news" until Thursday night, when she saw "an actual clip of him at a press conference equating the protesters, 'like Ms. Heyer,' with the KKK and the white supremacists."

Trump did not mention Heyer by name on Tuesday, but he did refuse to differentiate between the white nationalists, white supremacists, and neo-Nazis and those protesting them.

"You had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent," Trump said. "Nobody wants to say that, but I'll say it."

After Trump made more muted comments on Monday, Bro originally released a statement saying, "Thank you, President Trump, for those words of comfort and for denouncing those who promote violence and hatred."

Trump alluded to that in his press conference Tuesday, saying Bro had said "the nicest things" about him. Of Heyer, he also said, "I hear she was a fine, really actually, an incredible young woman."

It seems Bro took away more, however, from Trump's refusal to blame solely the hate groups in Charlottesville for the violence that led to her daughter's death.

"You can't wash this one away by shaking my hand and saying, 'I'm sorry,'" Bro said. "I'm not forgiving for that."
