A Twitter employee on their last day of work took down Trump's account for 11 minutes

President Donald Trump's Twitter account briefly disappeared on Thursday afternoon.

  • President Donald Trump's personal Twitter account briefly disappeared for 11 minutes.
  • Twitter said it was due to a "human error by a Twitter employee."
  • The company later said the incident was done by an employee on their last day of work.

President Donald Trump's personal Twitter account appeared to be offline on Thursday at around 7:00 p.m. eastern time.

The account was restored several minutes later, but many on Twitter took note of the account's disappearance.

At around 8:00 p.m., the official Twitter Government account tweeted that Trump's account "was inadvertently deactivated due to human error by a Twitter employee."

"The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored," Twitter Government said. "We are continuing to investigate and are taking steps to prevent this from happening again."

Twitter later said its investigation found "that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee's last day."

Trump's account, which has over 41 million followers, is the main account he uses to disseminate statements and attack his critics. The account was his personal account rather than his official White House account.

Trump frequently uses Twitter to deliver political messages ranging from congressional candidate endorsements to rebuking celebrities for their political leanings.

On Wednesday, Trump attracted critics after making preemptive tweets towards Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, the suspect in the recent NYC terror attack that killed eight people: "NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room. He killed 8 people, badly injured 12. SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY," Trump tweeted.
