5 things supporters of APC and President Buhari know but don't like to admit

These are sins Goodluck Jonathan's government was voted out of office for.

The level of partisan irrationality about the All Progressive Congress (APC) and President Buhari have helped in no small ways to prevent APC supporters to accept this fact.

Within two years, many Nigerians are back to their apolitical state and expressed disappointment with the level of performance of the government they fought hard to install. Although there are many good sides of this government, but the main cursors upon which the former government was voted out are still confronting the country on a daily basis.

In the midst of this depressing situation, the plagues of Jonathan’s government that are obvious in this government are listed below.

It is a great irony that new corruption cases emerged in the government of Buhari that promised to fight the monster with all his powers. Just like the last government, many of these emerging cases have no conclusion and punishment for the known perpetrators.

Infamous Grass-cutting contract scam of the former Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr David Babachir-Lawal, N500 million MTN scandal of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari, and Buratai’s Dubai Real Estate scandalamong others.

Accountability and transparency are still major issues promoting corruption in Buhari’s government.

With the personality of President Buhari, it is expected that there will be an end to ‘sacred cow' or 'untouchable’ individuals in government. However, the opposite is currently obtainable.

At present, some ministers and appointees of government command more powers than others. For example, it took the president six months to take action as regards sacking of the former SGF who has already been tinted by the National Assembly and the investigative committee headed by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Also, the Mainagate, grass cutting scandal, violations of court orders by DSS, Malami’s fiasco with EFFC Chairman’s confirmation debacle with the Senate and many sins of Mr Abba Kyari posit that these individuals stand above others.

Owing to the under-performance of the Buhari’s government, there is a likelihood that APC getting a return to Aso Rock will be a hard course to take. Although, many of its supporters are still leaving in the ephemeral of the power of incumbencies.

Many of them have also forgotten that APC will be judged by its performance, and not the rhetoric of last 16 years the PDP has governed the country.

Being oblivious to this fact is one thing many observers cannot explain.

One of many sins of Dr Jonathan is his failure to promptly address issues of national importance. It is the same pattern President Buhari has adopted towards issues.

The issue of Herdsmen crisis in the Middle Belt has failed to get the attention of the President. More so, EFCC’s Chairman’s confirmation is a non-issue to the President. To him, just like Jonathan, silence is golden.

Appointing grossly incompetent people to lead vital aspect of government is a sin President Buhari also gracefully fell into.

For a government that promises change, personality like the Sports Minister, Mr Solomon Dalung, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Communication Minister, Mr Adebayo Shittu, Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama andmany others, should not have a place in this government.
