12 people killed and 26 injured in 3 separate suicide bomb attacks in North-East Nigeria

There has been increase in spate of isolated bombings since the government declared that it has technically defeated the insurgent group.

The attacks were carried out on Monday, September 18, 2017, by suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgent group.

Nigeria has been battling the insurgency in the North East since 2009. Maiduguri and other parts of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are epicentres of war.

Mr Ahmed Satomi, Chairman of Borno’s State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) told local news media that the perpetrators infiltrated Mashimari, in Konduga Local Government to carry out the attacks.

“Three suicide bomber infiltrated a settlement called Mashimari, in Konduga Local Government,” said Satomi.

Majority of those affected in the current attacks are farmers who are congregating for farming activities in the village. Mashimari is 35 kilometres south-east of Maiduguri.

Boko Haram is one of the secessionist groups in Nigeria which has been trying to create an Islamic state in the Lake Chad region.

According to Reuters' tally, about 200 people have been killed in series of isolated bombings in the state since June 1, 2017. The crisis has also claimed about 20,000 people lives and displaced over two million people.
