The politician, who is also eyeing President Buhari's seat after dumping the ruling party, APC, for the opposition party, PDP, also expressed worry that the attacks by the insurgents have increased despite alleged ceasefire talks with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Atiku added that “intelligence gathering and sharing by all security agencies is of the essence if we must stem the attacks with all its attendant loss to lives and property.”

President Buhari has said he will negotiate with the terrorists rather than use force and even promised amnesty - a move which has been greeted with disapproval by politicians and social activists in the country.

Meanwhile, President Buhari led government's negotiation with the terrorists yielded the release of over 100 girls kidnapped by the terrorists in Chibok town, Borno state while another 105 girls from the over 100 girls kidnapped in Dapchi town, Yobe state.
