In the battle against Boko Haram by the Nigerian Armed Forces, it is important that the story of Aisha Bakari Gombi is told.

She is one of the few women who have been recruited by Nigerian soldiers as a volunteer to fight the terrorist group. Aisha Bakari Gombi, 38, was born and raised near the Sambisa forest, the headquarters of Boko Haram.

Gombi is one of the recruits who helped the Nigerian Army defeat Boko Haram and chase the terrorist group away from the forest.

Aisha Bakari Gombi has always been in the business of hunting. As a child, she hunted antelopes with her father. Her experience and knowledge of the forest has made her the leader of a team with 15-20 volunteers despite her limited training in military operations.

She is a woman of mean repute. "Boko Haram know me and fear me" she confidently told The Guardian when she was interviewed. Her record is also admirable as her team have been able rescue a high number of Boko Haram captives and neutralise the terrorist group.

Aisha Bakari Gombi is happy that she is playing her part in keeping the nation safe in the fight against Boko Haram. She however wishes that the Federal Government equips the army and the volunteer units with more sophisticated weapons.
