You can now fly direct from London to Chicago and Austin from just £179

Low-cost airline Norwegian Air is at it again.

After announcing in April that it will launch a direct route to Singapore Changi Airport in September starting at £179 ($230) one way, on Wednesday the company announced new routes to Chicago and Austin from London Gatwick for as low as £179 as part of its effort to expand in the UK.

Flights to Chicago start at £179, while direct routes to Austin, Texas are on sale from £239. Both routes will start from March 2018, and will be served by new a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Passengers will experience a "spacious, modern economy cabin with seatback inflight entertainment," according to the airline, or for an extra cost can opt for a Premium cabin with "more than a metre of legroom, complimentary meal service, generous baggage allowance and airport lounge access."

After launching its first low-cost long-haul flight three years ago, the airline now operates 13 direct long-haul routes from Gatwick, including nine US cities, Singapore, and Buenos Aires. In June, it was named as the second best low-cost airline in the world by Skytrax.

Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos said: "As America’s third biggest city, Chicago is perfect addition to our growing networks while Austin has also become a major hub for leisure and business travel so we are delighted to offer passengers more choice and lower fares to these vibrant cities."

Starting on March 25, 2018, there will be four flights per week to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, with economy fares from £179 one way and Premium fares from £499.

Flights to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will take place three times a week, starting on March 27, with fares available from £239 one way and Premium fares from £579.
