During an interview with CNBC on Friday, Cohn, who serves as director of the National Economic Council and is a close adviser to President Donald Trump, denied recent reports that he was looking to take over the top job at the Federal Reserve.

When asked by CNBC's Carl Quintanilla about becoming the chair of the Fed, Cohn said he was happy in his current position.

"No, I have a great job right now," Cohn said. "Serving the president has been a dream come true."

A report from Mike Allen of the news website Axios on Tuesday said a shake-up may be in the works at the White House and Cohn had told friends he wanted to eventually become the head of the US central bank. Because Janet Yellen's term as head of the Fed ends in February 2018, there was speculation that the move could come sooner rather than later.
