Financial institutions in Nigeria violate CBN's directives on status of National ID card registration slip

In Nigeria, disregard for and non-implementation of directives are frequent.

The registration slip is provided as temporary document before final issuance of the National ID card.

The CBN in a circular issued on March 31, 2017, stated that the NIN's registration slip should be accepted for any banking transactions.

NIN is issued by National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) after registering with the agency.

One of the leading commercial banks in Nigeria triggered a Twitter war after stating the document is not acceptable.

Many Nigerians expressed dismay at the blunt disregards for a regulatory and supervisory position of the CBN. While noting similar experience other commercial banks in the country.

Although, the commercial bank in question retracted their statement and changed its position after the CBN circular was shared on the social media platform,other commercial banks followed suit by stating their positions as regards the matter.
