Nigerian-born artist hosts discussion panel

Goethe Institut is set to play host to a panel discussion on distinguished Nigerian artist, Victor Ekpuk's art.

Ekpuk is a Nigerian-born artist based in Washington DC who came to prominence through his paintings and drawings which reflect indigenous African philosophies of the Nsibidi and Uli art forms.

He re-imagines graphic symbols from diverse cultures to form a personal style of mark-making resulting in the interplay of art and writing, and his work frequently explores the human condition in society, drawing upon a wide spectrum of meaning that is rooted in African and global contemporary art discourses.

The panel discussion is in conjunction with his solo exhibition opening April 2nd in Lagos after a 4-month residency with the Arthouse Foundation, and will explore Ekpuk´s artistic processes and cultural influences.

On the panel to discuss Ekpuk's art are artists and academics Chinwe Uwatse, Jerry Buhari, Kunle Filani and publisher/art patron Toyin Akinosho.
