The festival kicked off with a Publishers' Forum held at the Goethe Institut, City Hall, Lagos. The theme for the 2016 edition is 'The terror of knowledge'. The festival is organised by the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA).
The theme is inspired by what Professor Wole Soyinka said: "Books and all forms of writing are terror to those who wish to suppress the truth."
The organisers hope to address the increase cases of extremism against acquiring knowledge and development of the mind in the county.
About 35 different events have been planned for this edition. Some of them are a book trek at the British Council in Ikoyi, plays, concerts, book readings, workshops, seminars and a visual arts exhibition.
It is expected that more than 30 publishers will have book stands at the festival. At least 10 exhibiting artist group are also expected to be present.
The Lagos Book and Arts Festival will be held at Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos Island.
