A painting by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian was sold for $50.56 million on Thursday, at a Christie's auction in New York, emerging the most ever paid for his work.

The painting 'Composition No. III, with Red, Blue, Yellow and Black,' was made in 1929, sold at an impressionist and modern art auction for more than twice its maximum estimated value, which according to Christies, was between $15 million and $25 million.
This comes after Christie's auction house sold $1.54 billion of fine art and collectibles within three days.
Kicking off the great week was undefined which sold for $179.4 million on Monday, becoming the most expensive painting to ever sell at auction.
